Description

Janus Theatre Company presents the Chicago-area premiere of On The Exhale by Martin Zimmerman. The play features Jennifer Reeves-Wilson and is directed by Artistic Director Sean Hargadon.

On The Exhale explores the subjetc of gun violence and control. When a senseless act of violence changes her life forever, a liberal college professor finds herself inexplicably drawn to the very weapon used to perpetrate the crime – and to the irresistible feeling of power that comes from holding life and death in her hands. Peering down the barrel of a uniquely American crisis, she begins to suspect that when it comes to gun violence, we’re all part of the problem.

The production is being staged at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division Street, downtown Elgin, April 20-29, 2018. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $15.

This play concludes Janus Theatre's 19th season Inspired By…This project presented three plays that explore and attempt to understand through theater the creation, debate, and removal of the mural “American Nocturne” in Elgin during 2016. This project approaches the subject of art and culture in the community by asking three questions separately in each of the plays: What is art? Why do we make art? How do we talk about race?

On The Exhale addresses the question: Why do we make art?

This project is sponsored in part by the City of Elgin, Elgin Culutral Arts Commission, Janus Theatre Company,
Elgin Artspace, and the Elgin Art Showcase. The play is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
